18 sketches

google sketchup

Ground one: Anchor

Reflections: I think it looks a little scrappy. The idea is that a string-like material; thin metal cable probably, is netted over the dome and webs inward to a centeral line which runs downward and into the lower levels. I'm interested in how the perspective here has a tree-like appearence.

Below Ground: Burgenoning

Reflections: Working again with the string-like metal cable, the concept is that from the roof downward the cable is netted - its dimensions becomming wider and wider till at ground level you can walk in, around and between the cable. Looking upward this would give a burgenoning impression. I need to master sketchup however, in my models its more as if I've created hundreds of wedges of wall.

STEP 1)
This is not my best creative work. It's a photograph of a dodgey sketch of my favourite creative work, which was a sculpture. I was not allowed to keep it because it was too big and I neglected to take any proper photographs of it. It's difficult to gage from this sketch but the reason it remains my favourite (best) piece of creative of work is because I so enjoyed the contrast in weight of materials, the red birds hung in an abyss and softly swung above the deadweight of the jarring black-wood city. I like juxtaposing materials like that I think it can often be very visually striking and emotionally engaging. Blah blah

STEP 2)
I could not find an adequate photograph of the building that inspired me to be an architect. Google maps was the best I could do so please refer to marker C, it’s a building of no architectural renown and merit anyway. It’s the primary school that I used to bus past on the way to my own primary school. I think I wanted to change schools simply so I could go inside and see how the building was laid out, its guts, how it looked and worked. That got me thinking, I suppose, who is involved with buildings and how they look and operate. That is when it first struck me that I would maybe like to be an architect. To this day, any building that interests me I’m absolutely itching to get inside of.

STEP 3)
This is a photograph of an original Polaroid that I find very beautiful. I love the nostalgic-hazy quality of light that Polaroids give. When we took this one when my housemate was doing photography experiments and burnt it a little with a match, which made it yellow even more (you should see what happens when you put them in the microwave). My cat is in this picture, I’m no crazy cat lady but I’ll admit that I adore my cat, he’s lying in the sun on the back steps at my house which is the best place to sit because it is sun drenched
